Meet Venerable Ming Fa, from Kong Meng San Phor Kark See Monastery. His role is to teach and propagate the Dharma — “the true nature of all things”.
TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF IN 1 LINE.
I pride myself to remain humble and tactful.
TELL US SOMETHING MOST PEOPLE MIGHT NOT KNOW ABOUT YOU.
If I were to consider it as an interest in personal hobbies – then I would say I have none that people do not know of. My daily life revolves around the practise and teaching of Dharma, therefore my activities are widely known to the people around me. But I do enjoy the occasional brisk walk around the monastery.
WHAT’S THE BEST PIECE OF ADVICE YOU’VE EVER RECEIVED?
My advice to heeding life, is to always bear a ‘positive’ outlook and attitude towards life. Regardless of your family or education background, we all encounter bad experiences sometimes. Thus we should always look on the bright side of things and make the most out of a bad experience.
TELL US ABOUT A TIME WHEN THIS PIECE OF ADVICE CAME IN USEFUL.
Even if we’re facing a bad day or experiencing misfortune, it is important not to dwell on what has happened. When playing a game of cards, there are times when we pick up a lousy card. It’s how we perceive the situation, that changes our experience of the game itself. We could focus on driving our energy to make a better decision that will help us win the game. Thus it’s important to have a positive outlook so that we can think with a clearer and more focused mind that will help us solve problems more efficiently. By learning to face things with a positive mindset, we are more likely to experience a positive outcome from a bad experience.
