#TheGoodWomen: Hollywood Heroes

Or Should We Say Sheroes?

Life may seem tough to navigate at times for women. We see reports of how women make less money, have to work harder, and struggle at times just to have their voices heard. It can be really discouraging as a girl to hear about all this.

This is where the four heroes we want to feature come in. They are women who have faced so many challenges (especially due to gender inequality) but have emerged winners nonetheless. So ladies, let’s take a minute to recharge and devour all the wisdom these Hollywood Sheroes have to share!

And to all the boys… I’ve loved before reading this too, it’s great that you are! It benefits us all when we can all succeed. Plus, these inspirational quotes are definitely not only relatable to females!

In this Hollywood Heroes series, we will be honoring billionaire media mogul Oprah Winfrey, award-winning entertainers Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, as well as former First Lady of the United States of America, Michelle Obama.

We believe that after you’ve read this post you’ll be ready to take on life with a new passion. And to that we’ll say, you go girl.

Oprah Winfrey

Oprah Winfrey is a television superstar with one of the most successful talk shows the world has ever known. She’s a billionaire and uses her influence for good by supporting education, female empowerment, and many other causes. She’s also known for dishing out great advice, so here’s some must know quotes from the queen of daytime TV herself.

On taking control of your life…

“I have always had the deep understanding for myself that if anything was to move forward in my life that I was going to be responsible for making that happen.”

On developing your talent…

“Become so skilled, so vigilant, so flat-out fantastic at what you do that your talent cannot be dismissed.”

Maya Angelou (Oprah’s mentor) on failure and moving on…

“You did in your 20s what you knew how to do and when you knew better you did better. You should not be judged for the person that you were but for the person that you are trying to be and the woman that you are now. When you know better, you do better.

Tina Fey & Amy Poehler

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are a classic example of females supporting females. As two very accomplished individuals, they work with and support one another so much that we can truly call them #BFFgoals. Tina & Amy are actresses, comedians, authors, producers and more, and are known to be some of the funniest and most talented people in the America. In an entertainment world dominated by men these two have carved an amazingly successful career for themselves not just as actresses but also as leaders in the industry.

On confidence…

“Confidence is 10% hard work and 90% delusion, just thinking foolishly that you will be able to do what you want to do.” – Tina Fey

On how to deal with haters…

“Don’t waste your energy trying to educate or change opinions; go over, under, through, and opinions will change organically when you’re the boss. Or they won’t. Who cares? Do your thing, and don’t care if they like it.” – Tina Fey

While you can definitely bring about change, Tina’s quote reminds us to not be disheartened by others’ non-constructive and unnecessary hate. Put your time and heart in what matters most!

On self-worth…

“Anybody who doesn’t make you feel good, kick them to the curb. And the earlier you start in your life, the better.” – Amy Poehler

On your social environment…

“I want to be around people that do things. I don’t want to be around people anymore that judge or talk about what people do. I want to be around people that dream and support and do things.” – Amy Poehler

Michelle Obama

Michelle Obama is the former First Lady of the United States of America. We know that technically she isn’t from Hollywood but we decided to bend the rules a little because MO dishes some seriously good advice. She is a highly educated woman who went to some of the best universities in America and is a trained lawyer. Let’s not forget that she achieved all this despite her humble background. During her time as First Lady, she faced some challenges as people of different political views, criticized and at times mocked her. Despite this, she was unfazed and kept doing much to help fellow Americans and others around the world, and this is how she ended up being one of the most respectable figures of this era.

On staying classy even when others are not…

“When someone is cruel or acts like a bully, you don’t stoop to their level. No, our motto is, when they go low, we go high”

On overcoming disadvantages/obstacles…

“You should never view your challenges as a disadvantage. Instead, it’s important for you to understand that your experience facing and overcoming adversity is actually one of your biggest advantages. And I know that because I’ve seen it myself… Unlike so many young people you’ve already developed the resilience and maturity that you need to pick yourself up and dust yourself off and keep moving through the pain, keep moving forward. You have developed that muscle.”

On the importance of education…

“I never cut class. I loved getting A’s, I liked being smart. I liked being on time. I thought being smart is cooler than anything in the world.”

We’ll be covering more inspirational journeys of women in this series The Good Woman. Did we miss a Hollywood Hero you draw inspiration from? Feel free to share with us a little about them!
