Sarasvathy’s Good Advice

Meet Sarasvathy S. , Senior Counsellor, HCA Hospice Care. Her main role is to support the team of nurses and doctors as well as, seeing patients and caregivers at home.

TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF IN 1 LINE.

I’m a very bubbly person, easy to build rapport with and very down to earth.

TELL US SOMETHING MOST PEOPLE MIGHT NOT KNOW ABOUT YOU.

I’m usually a very transparent person, but I’m curious about new age courses. I have taken courses such as angel reading, angel cards, healing and use it to help people on a voluntary basis and to satisfy my own curiosity.

WHAT’S THE BEST PIECE OF ADVICE YOU’VE EVER RECEIVED?

Differentiate between people who entertain you and people who sustain you. Those who entertain you are usually those those that do not matter much, so I don’t take their words too personally. I differentiate between the words that matters and those that don’t matter, so that I stay grounded.

TELL US ABOUT A TIME WHEN THIS PIECE OF ADVICE CAME IN USEFUL.

When my mother was ill and I became a caregiver for my mother, I began to identify the two types of people that visited; those that came to seek entertainment, and those who came sincerely to support me. I would take more time to sit down and listen to those that came with a sincere heart.

For a year, I was on the receiving end of advices, and I had learnt to filter out negative ones. Sometimes, people say demeaning words out of concern and I don’t want to fall into the trap of feeling guilty or regret thus, I differentiate between the good and bad advices. I aim to be like a tree; the wind may try to blow me away, but I will remain grounded.
