Phuong’s Good Advice

Meet Phuong, a social entrepreneur from Vietnam. He is the Director of the Center for Sustainable Development Studies (CSDS) that seeks to connect volunteers from all over the world to Vietnam. Check out their Facebook page here!

TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF IN 1 LINE.

I consider myself a social entrepreneur who wants to help young people to do good for the community as they grow up.

TELL US SOMETHING MOST PEOPLE MIGHT NOT KNOW ABOUT YOU.

I sometimes feel discouraged and want to quit, but just sometimes.

WHAT’S THE BEST PIECE OF ADVICE YOU’VE EVER RECEIVED?

In one of my interviews, I was asked “How would you make a good social project sustainable?” and I could not give a good answer. Then, I was given a simple piece advice: “Make it a business”, or later as I understood, a social business.

TELL US ABOUT A TIME WHEN THIS PIECE OF ADVICE CAME IN USEFUL.

This became very helpful when I decided not to seek for a job that I liked but to create one instead. I adopted a business model into my social project and it succeeded – it is now self-sustainable.
